Originally bred to control rats in cotton mills and mines in yorkshire, England.. They became fashionable pets during the victorian age.. The yorkshire terrier was originally known as the Broken-Haired Scotch Terrier, they were renamed by 1870 to the Yorkshire Terrier.. Yorkies are descended from Waterside Terriers, Old English Black And Tan Terriers, Rough-Coated English Terrriers, Paisley Terris and Clydesdale Terriers. The were first introduced to the United States in the 1870s

Physical Description
Small, well balanced dog with square proportions and high head carriage. The skull is small and flat, muzzle is tapered with small, button nose. Ears are erect and v-shaped. The tail is docked to a medium length and is carried slightly higher then back.

Temperament
This breed is fiesty and full of energy, they can be suspicious of strangers and can make a good watchdog despite their small size. Some individuals may show aggression with other animals but not always the norm.. As long as they are not pestered, they can get along with children. The Yorkie is alert and barks when it senses danger. They are loving, intelligent and sometimes a little too brave..The Yorkshire Terrier is one of the most popular toy breeds in the U.S. today

Training
A quick learner if you are consistant in your approach and ensure the lessons are positive.

Living Conditions
This breed will do ok in an apartment

Grooming
The yorkie needs intensive daily grooming with a brush and comb. If the long coat is not desired, the dog should be trimmed at the groomer.

Exercise
Moderate Activity Level, The Yorkie adapts well to whatever exercise it gets.

Coat Texture
The Coat is long, silky and glossy. it is parted down the back and hangs straight. Hair on the dogs muzzle is long and blends into the chest hair

steel-blue & tan

Puppies
3 Pups Per litter. Yorkies may have trouble delivery pups and may require a c-section. Yorkie pups ar born black and tan but will develop their adult steel and blue coloring at around 2 years of age.
