Origin Great Britain, 1800s. Cairn terriers sometimes produce white puppies, these puppies were selectively bred into what we now know as the Westie. They recieved recognition in the U.S in 1908 |

Physical Description Small, well-balanced and hardy with a compact body that is slightly taller than it is long. It has a broad skull and blunt muzzle. Dark brown, almond-shaped eyes. Black nose. Small naturally erect ears with pointed tips. Tail is short and shaped like an inverted carrot. |
Temperment This breed is very sociable and good with children. They are not always good with other animals and should be watched around them. This breed may be difficult to obedience train but they can make a good watch dog |
Living Conditions Will do ok in apartment. |
Grooming Brush a few times a week , also may need some trimming. Bathe once a month |
Exercise Walk on a lead or allow to run freely in fenced area |
Coat Texture Double coated with a hard, straight outer coat that is about 2 inches long. The coat is bristly around its face giving it a rounded appearance |
