Kochi Ken

This breed has existed in Japan since ancient times. They were originally bred as hunting dogs mostly for boar.. 3 varieties of the breed used to exist. The Awa, Hata and Hongawa. Each name representing the place in which it was bred. In 1937 the Shikoku recieved its present name.

Known Health Problems

The Shikoku can be stubborn and tends to be dominant towards other dogs. But in the family , they are gentle. They are also an enthusiastic hunter.


Living Conditions

Brush coat as needed, especially when the dog is shedding. Bathe every 3-4 months.
