Origin Japan This breed has existed in Japan since ancient times. They were originally bred as hunting dogs mostly for boar.. 3 varieties of the breed used to exist. The Awa, Hata and Hongawa. Each name representing the place in which it was bred. In 1937 the Shikoku recieved its present name. |
