Physical Description This is a strong, well boned gundog. They have a large skull with a long muzzle. The nose is large and dark liver in color. The ears are long and hang down. The body is of medium length. The front leges are muscular and straight. The hind legs are also muscular and the hips are wide. The paws are large and round and the tail is rat like, set low and carried level with the back. |
Temperament Gentle, calm & faithful. This breed is good with children and is easy to train however they can be stubborn. They may be reserved with strangers and also may show aggression with other dogs. They are intelligent and eager to please their owner given proper training. |
Training The Irish Water Spaniel needs a firm trainer who will be consistant and confident. |
Living Conditions Needs a large space to run so they are not suitable for apartment living. They would do best with an active owner in a rural or suburban home. |
Grooming 1 hour of trimming weekly is needed to keep curls in top condition |
Exercise This breed needs alot of exercise and should be taken on daily walks. They also love to swim and should be given plenty of opportunity to enjoy the water. |
